Nyla Kamlet, Founder and Director of PlayTogether NYC
Nyla Kamlet L.C.S.W. the Founder and Director of PlayTogether NYC, is a recognized leader in the field of child development. Her background includes extensive psychological training and clinical experience in child behaviour and development. Her PlayTogether NYC play-based preschool provides children with opportunities to realize their full potential by learning fundamental skills and strategies through interactive play and educational programs. Nyla’s role in the classroom includes that of teacher and clinical supervisor. Her specialties include communication, teaching art and pre-reading skills. She works with each student on an individual basis. Both academic and social goals for each child are set and reviewed by Nyla throughout the year.
Nyla received her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Wurzweiler School of Social Work at Yeshiva University. Her postgraduate training from The New York Institute for Psychotherapy is in Infancy, Children and Adolescents.
Holly founded her “Child’s Play” program, specifically designed for parents-only and their children, in 1986 at Central Presbyterian Church. Holly eventually directed her program at Rutgers Presbyterian, West-Park Presbyterian, Holy Trinity Episcopal, Jan Hus Presbyterian and Lenox Hill Neighborhood House. Before retiring from “Child’s Play” in 2011, she expanded her program roster to include Mother’s Support Groups, Homeschooling programs and Parenting education workshops. Holly chaired the Family Advisory Committee and serves on the Board of Directors of “September’s Mission”, an advocacy group for 9/11 families. In addition to being a Dance Major at Butler University, Holly attended Marymount Manhattan, focusing on Early-Childhood Education and Psychology.
Brad Salonen, Head Teacher PreK
Brad has been teaching in various settings for 8 years and has recently focused on Early Childhood Education. He enjoys teaching to see the enthusiasm young children have for learning about the world around them. A wonderful, effective method of his is to incorporate musical and artistic interests into daily activities. Brad attended Mercy College, and then received his masters from City College of New York. His kind and creative personality supports students in their growth during early childhood education.
Melissa Montero, Assistant Teacher PreK
Shanade Hernandez, Head Teacher 2s/3s
Shanade Hernandez has been involved in early childhood education for the last 8 years. She has assistant taught the Congregation Shearith Israel Toddler Program and has taught many independent music programs catered to early learning in association with the Universal Pre-K program . Aside from Playtogether NYC, Ms.Hernandez holds the assistant children's choir director position as Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, teaches private voice and beginner piano to various age ranges and volunteers at Borough of Manhattan Community College as section lead for the Downtown Community Choir. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Music Education from New York University.
Lena is the Director of Admissions, Administrator, and the Handwriting teacher to the 4’s. She joined the staff in 2011. Before moving to New York from Sweden, Lena studied Early Childhood Education. Lena came to PlayTogetherNYC from Rockinghorse Nursery School, where she worked for 3 years as the Assistant Teacher.
